Two weekends ago, I cooked up the kind of meal that makes my parents proud of a job well done. The kind that has a first course, a second course, and a third course like a proper Bengali meal should.
Traditional Bengali Menu – Exhibit 1
First course – Smoky sautéed spinach with sweet potato
Second course – Mung dal or split green gram infused with ginger, served with crispy aubergine/eggplant fritters
Third course – Home-style chicken curry
All courses are served with fluffy basmati rice, of course! The women in my husband’s family got to enjoy it. That time when I made this tea.
